Routine checks
Follow the table below to perform periodical inspection.

Gauge head

Corrosion check and cleaning of tape protective
pipe
After opening the gauge head rear cover, check for accumulation of rust.
If necessary, remove rust by tapping the protective pipe with a wooden
hammer.
Check of reduction gear engagement and bearing Remove the indicator cover and rotate the reduction gear to check if the
engagement backlash is within 1 mm (0.04 in).
Check the bearing for wear using the same method.
Friction on tape drum and sprocket
After opening the gauge head rear cover, check bearings of drums for
wear, corrosion or dust. Clean them as needed.
Characteristic change of conster
Inspect with the drive check. If the indicated values are not consistent,
clean the conster.
If this does not resolve the problem, replace the conster.
Condensation and fogging of the indicator
window
Check to ensure that the indicator cover is tightened firmly and that there
is no foreign body lodged in the packing surface.
Inspection of the check handle
Confirm that the check handle returns to its original position when
pushing and releasing it.
Gauge head

Inspection of the drive checker unit
Check the condition and performance of the checker spring inside the
gauge head.
Inspection of magnet coupling
Replace the sprocket to strip the rust and remove the dust (1 to 2 times a
year).
Inspection of packing leakage of the gauge head
Check airtightness using soap water.
Sheave elbow
Sheave elbow wear
Remove the measuring tape from the roller in the sheave elbow and
check to see if it rotates smoothly.
Remove the bearing and check for wear.
Remove dust from the roller.
