Repair Procedures
11.2 Repair Procedure for 1 DB Joint (code 7787)
The purpose of this section is show how to apply the
1DB (repair) joint. This type of repair is needed typically in FTTH applications
where the 1DB drop m/d has been damaged. Sheath stripping should be carried out as indicated in the Sheath removal section of this manual.
Equipment Required
■
Heat source (gas torch, electric heat gun)

tools to strip sheaths and gain access to micro-duct. See page 41
■
Tape measure.

NOTE: The primary microduct used in FTTH applications is 5/2.1mm (7823).

Support micro-duct
3. Slide the support duct over one end of the
micro-duct and fit the connector supplied
as shown. This joins the two micro-ducts
together. Slide the support duct centrally
over the connector.
1. Place the heatshrink sleeve half way
onto the support duct. Apply heat to the
overlapping portion. Leave to cool. Repeat
for other end.
4. Apply heat to each end of the heatshrink
sleeving until the adhesive is seen
protruding from the open end.
2. Cut and strip away the outer sheathing
leaving 30mm of the inner tubing exposed.
5. The finished joint will look like this.
