below) is attained or there is no more attenuation available to insert. Once the desired
power level is attained, the EkoMini stops adding attenuation and the unit’s gain has
been set. The uplink gain tracks the downlink gain during this process. This ends the
automatic setup.
After automatic setup has ended, the EkoMini
TM
continues to constantly monitor its
output level, and if, for whatever reason, the input signal increases (i.e., from cell
breathing due to traffic load, additional channels added, etc.), which causes the output
signal to increase by 2 dB above the user settable level, the EkoMini
TM
will introduce
additional attenuation to bring the output power level back to the user settable level.
Again, once the user settable output power level is attained, the EkoMini
TM
stops
adding attenuation and the unit’s gain has been reset.
It is important to note here that after automatic setup has completed, attenuation is
never
removed from the downlink path; it is only added. This allows for the phone and
base station (BTS) to interact in a normal fashion (i.e., permits cell breathing and
power control).
Because of the indoor application of the EkoMini
TM
, there is the possibility of a phone
coming into close proximity of the server (rerad) antenna. If this situation occurs and
the signal level into the EkoMini
TM
uplink
causes the output level to exceed the user
settable power level, the unit will introduce additional attenuation into the
uplink
path to
reduce the output level. When the signal into the EkoMini
TM
in the uplink is reduced
(i.e., the user walks away), the EkoMini will reduce the attenuation back to where it
was.
The EkoMini
TM
has 70 dB gain, which is microprocessor controlled by in and out
switching attenuation in 2 dB steps up to 30 dB. This allows a gain range of 40 dB to
70 dB. This is the attenuation that the unit uses to adjust its power levels during
automatic setup, downlink overdrive, and uplink overdrive.
The output power of the EkoMini
TM
is user settable (manually) b6 dBm and
+20 dBm by using the dipswitches located behind the control panel cover on the side
of the unit. Dip switches 6, 7, and 8 are used to set the output power level. Any
changes to the switches will not take effect until either the unit is power cycled, or the
reset switch is activated.
Note: The majority of users do not manually limit the output power. If dip switches 6,
7, and 8 are all placed in the “off” position, the maximum power output limit is +20
dBm.
