General Manual Electric Winches with UMPH rope-English Rev.1.1 – 10-12-2014
6. MAINTENANCE
EMCÉ
winches are engineered to a bare minimum of maintenance operations. Following maintenance
operations are required for all EMCÉ winches
.
Specific maintenance operations are mentioned in annex 2.
For installation in zones 21 and 22 the user must schedule and implement a regular cleaning
program for all surfaces and recesses to avoid dust build ups of more than 5 mm in depth.
Before servicing or repairing internal components, allow the gear unit to cool down completely
before opening the casing so as to avoid burns from parts which are still hot.
Make sure, on completion of maintenance work, that all safety measures and equipment have
been applied an reset.
Clean the gear unit thoroughly after maintenance work and repairs.
On completion of maintenance work, tighten all vent, filler and level plugs to their specified
torque (see table in chapter 4.1)
On completion of any maintenance work, all seals must be refitted and sealed as prescribed.
Use only original spare parts for repairs.
6.1 LUBRICATION
Lubrication intervals are based on intermittent operation of the winch eight hours each day, five days per week.
At more intensive use lubrication intervals increase. Also, the lubrication types are based on operation in an
environment relatively free of dust, moisture, and corrosive fumes.
6.1.1 Pinions and Screw Threads
Thread lubricant or an antiseize compound use is recommended for threaded shafts, cap screws and nuts.
Remove old lubricant, clean the part with an acid free solvent and apply a new coating of lubricant to the part
before assembly.
6.1.2 Bearings and Pivot Points
Lubricate all grease fittings monthly with a grease gun, or more frequently, depending on severity of service. For
temperatures –29° to 10°C use a multipurpose lithium-based EP 1 grease. For temperatures 0° to 49° C use a
multipurpose lithium-based EP 2 grease.
6.1.3 Motor
Electric motors:
Bearings of all electrical motors are lifetime grease packed.
6.1.4 Fiber rope
Follow the fiber rope manufacturer’s instructions. At a minimum, observe the following guidelines. Clean with a brush (not a
metal wire brush) or steam to remove dirt, rock dust or other foreign material on the surface of the fiber rope.
Always check fiber rope integrity before starting winch operation. Fitting a suitable new
fiber rope is necessary if the existing one has been squeezed or has broken strands.
6.2 GEARBOX OIL CHECKS AND CHANGES
For non-lifetime lubricated gearboxes check oil level monthly and top up as necessary with the required oil*.
Oil quantity, oil specifications, oil level- and oil filling plugs can be found in annex 2 and the winch datasheet in
annex 1.
Gearboxes of winch types;
MC250
to
MC750
,
EN200
to
EN500
and
A10
to
A30
are lifetime
lubricated with synthetic lubricant type Shell Tivela std.
