General Manual Electric Winches with UMPH rope-English Rev.1.1 – 10-12-2014
•
Chemical contamination: unless the chemical is specifically known to be harmless, it should be
considered a contaminant.
•
Texture inconsistency: soft, mushy places or hard spots (localized or over an extended area).
•
Age: the rope is simply worn out from use.
•
Diameter inconsistency: a visible change in diameter: localized diameter reduction, flat areas,
lumps and bumps in rope.
•
Loss of confidence: the rope was used by persons whom you suspect may not have taken
proper care of it. Although there is no conclusive evidence from manufacturers, we recommend
that a rope be taken out of service within five years of the manufacturing date. Seek proper
instruction in the correct techniques and use of all ropes and equipment. A novice’s lack of
experience is often the reason ropes are inadvertently exposed to situations that cause
premature rope damage.
5. ALL COMPONENTS. Externally inspect for wear, damage, distortion, deformation and cleanliness.
Clean, replace or lubricate as required.
6. BRAKE. Test brake to ensure proper operation. Brake must hold 150% rated load with full drum without
slipping .; If poor operation or visual damage, return winch to an authorized service center for repair;
Check all brake surfaces for wear, deformation or foreign deposits. If brake lining thickness appears to
be worn, contaminated or damaged brake band should be replaced. Clean and replace components as
necessary.
7. FOUNDATION OR SUPPORTING STRUCTURE. Check for distortion, wear and continued ability to
support winch and rated load. Ensure winch is firmly mounted and that fasteners are in good condition
and tight.
8. LABELS AND TAGS. Check for presence and legibility of labels. Replace if damaged or missing.
Winches Not in Regular Use
1. Equipment which has been idle for a period of one month or more, but less than six months, shall be
given an inspection conforming to the requirements of "Frequent Inspection" before being placed into
service.
2. Equipment which has been idle for a period of over six months shall be given a complete inspection
conforming with the requirements of "Periodic Inspection" before being placed into service.
3. Standby equipment shall be inspected at least semi-annually in accordance with the requirements of
"Frequent Inspection". In abnormal operating conditions equipment should be inspected at shorter
intervals.
4. Control panels with frequency inverters should be electrical powered for a at least once a year for a
period of 1 hour to ensure that the frequency inverter stays in proper condition. An electrical supply to
the control panel is sufficient for this purpose. The winch does not have to be in operation during this 1
hour period.
