Safe operating practices for
portable mains electricity fed
garden vacuums, and garden
vacuums/blowers with or without
shredders and garden blowers
1 Training
a) Read the instructions carefully. Familiarise
yourself with the controls and the correct use of the
equipment.
b) Never allow children or people who are not
familiar with these instructions to use the machine.
National rules can limit the age of the operator.
c) Never operate the machine when third parties, in
particular children, or animals, are nearby.
d) The operator or user is responsible for any
injuries or harm (accidents or danger) that occur to
other people or their property.
2 Preparation
a) Wear hearing protection and safety glasses.
Wear them at all times when the machine is
operating.
b) When operating the machine, always wear strong
boots and long trousers.
Do not operate the machine barefooted or in
sandals. Avoid wearing clothes that are voluminous
or have cords or neck ties.
c) Do not wear voluminous clothes or jewellery that
could be drawn into the air inlet. Keep long hair
away from air inlets.
d) Operate the machine in a recommended position
and only on a hard level surface.
e) Do not operate the machine on a paved surface
or on gravel where the ejection of material could
cause injuries.
f) Before use, always make a visual inspection to
detect whether the shredder, the shredder bolts and
other fixings are correctly tightened, that the casing
is not damaged and that the guards and screens are
in place. Replace worn or damaged components by
complete sets so as to retain good balance.
Replace damaged or illegible labels.
d) Before use, check the supply cable and the
extension cable to detect signs of damage or
ageing. If a cable is damaged in use disconnect it
from the electricity mains immediately. DO NOT
TOUCH THE CABLE BEFORE YOU HAVE
DISCONNECTED IT FROM THE ELECTRICITY
MAINS. Do not use the machine if the cable is
damaged or worn.
3 Operation
a) Before starting the machine, check that the feed
tray is empty.
b) Keep the face and body away from the inlet
opening.
c) Do not put the hands or any other part of the
body or clothes into the feed tray, the ejection
trough or close to any moving part.
d) Keep well balanced and be sure of your footing at
all times. Do not hurry. Never hold yourself above
the level of the machine base when filling it.
e) Keep away from the ejection zone when the
machine is operating.
f) When feeding the machine material, check
carefully for the absence of metal parts, stones,
bottles, boxes or other foreign objects.
g) If the cutting mechanism strikes foreign objects or
if the machine starts by emitting an unusual noise or
with abnormal vibrations, immediately switch off the
power source and allow the machine to stop.
Disconnect the machine from the electricity mains
and take the following measures before restarting
and operating the machine:
i) examine the damage;
ii) replace or repair all damaged parts;
iii) check and retighten all loose parts.
h) Never allow processed materials to accumulate in
the ejection zone, this can hinder correct ejection
and lead to materials returning through the inlet
opening.
i) If the machine becomes blocked, switch off the
source of power and disconnect the machine from
the electrical mains before cleaning out the debris.
j) Never use the machine with defective guards or
screens or without safety devices, for example the
debris collector, in place.
NOTE If a debris collector is not used the text in the
example can be deleted.
k) Keep the power source away from debris and
other accumulated material so as to avoid damaging
it or causing a fire.
l) Do not transport the machine when the power
supply is active.
m) Stop the machine and disconnect the plug from
the electrical socket. Check that all moving parts
have completely stopped:
− Before leaving the machine,
− Before cleaning blockages or unblocking the
trough,
− Before inspecting, cleaning or repairing the
machine,
n) Do not tilt the machine when the power supply is
active.
4 Maintenance and storage
a) When the machine is stopped for maintenance,
inspection or storage or to replace an accessory,
switch off the power source, disconnect the machine
from the electricity mains and check that all moving
parts have completely stopped. Allow the machine
to cool before performing any inspection, or
adjustment operations, etc. Keep the machine clean
and in good operating condition.
b) Store the machine in a dry place out of reach of
children.
