Analog Device Support
Analog device ports are only available on certain DIVA T/A models. These two ports let you
connect analog devices such as ordinary telephones, answering machines, fax machines, or
modems to your DIVA T/A. Calls to and from these analog devices are carried over your ISDN
line. You also get additional calling features such as Call Forwarding, etc.
For more information on these calling features, see “Calling Features” on page 105.
Whenever possible, you should use Multilink PPP (MLPPP) since it provides maximum
throughput with the remote device.
In the case of a Multilink PPP connection that uses two B-channels, an analog device can still
be used if Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) is enabled. For example, while a MLPPP data
connection is in progress using two B-channels, a telephone connected to one of the analog
device ports rings. As soon as the phone rings, the MLPPP connection automatically drops
one of the B-channels, reducing the data connection from 128 kbps to 64 kbps, and the voice
call can then be connected. The same holds true if you decide to pick up the phone for an
outgoing call.
After hanging up the voice call, the data connection re-establishes the second B-channel and
brings the data connection back up to 128 kbps.
To use this feature, Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) must be enabled.

If you are using Windows 95/98/NT, launch the Windows Configuration Tool and verify
this option in the ‘Data’ tab (see page 44).

If you are using a Macintosh (System 7 or later), launch the Macintosh Configuration Tool
and verify this option in the ‘Advanced’ tab (see page 70).

If you are using any other platform, use the VT100 Configuration Tool and verify this
option in the ‘Advanced’ menu (see page 73).
You can also use the PPP, V.110, or V.120 protocols. In these cases, one B-channel is always
available for voice.
Note:
There is no limit to the number of digits you can use when making calls through
analog devices; however, calls made through ISDN have a maximum of 40 dialed digits.
