Safety of the trampoline and accident prevention
7
Like in any other Garden activities, participants may be hurt. This chapter covers the most common risks ;
Supervisors and users responsibility are detailed too. Major accident causes are :
• Somersaults attempts : falling on the head or on the neck can be responsible of hard injury, paralysis or death,
even falling on the middle of the jumping mat.
• More than one user at a time on the trampoline. Such use can lead to injuries (collisions and important shocks)
• Entering and exiting the trampoline incorrectly. Get in and out of the jumping mat carefully. Do not jump on
the ground. Do not jump on the trampoline from a roof or from any other raised surface. Little children would be
helped to get in and out of the trampoline. Do not walk on the suspension system if the protection foam is not
assembled.
• Shock on the frame : when you jump, stay at the center of the jumping mat. You could be hurt by hitting
the frame if you lose control of your trajectory. Be sure that the protection foam is always well settled and that
padding are well attached. Do not jump directly on padding.
• Lost of control. User who lost control of his trajectory may be hurt. Be sure that you fully master basic jumping
techniques before trying diffi cult one. Master every jump technique and repeat them several times before trying
the next level. To regain jump control and stop jumping, quickly bend knees when you touch the jumping mat.
• Do not use the trampoline under medication effects. Medication have a negative effect on movements
coordination. Risk of losing jump control is highly raised.
• Foreign objects : check that there is not any cutting or blunt object in, under and around the trampoline. Shock
with such an object raise injury risks. Check that there is a 5 meter free space above the trampoline, and 3 meter
around. Take care of electrical wires, trees, etc.
• Bad weather. Do not use the trampoline by gusty wind or if the weather is bad. When the jumping mat is wet it
is slippery.
• Inappropriate maintenance of the trampoline. Check the trampoline before each use. Be sure that the jumping
mat is not perforated, that there is no cutting edge on the frame, no damaged sews or no distended elastic
stripes. If a spare part is required, order it immediately.
• Use of the trampoline without supervision : trampoline shall be disassembled or covered when it is not used, to
avoid children using it without supervision.
Supervisor and/or owner role concerning accident prevention.
Supervisor role is to check that every children who may use the trampoline are aware of safety rules, and learn
basics jumps. Supervisor shall ensure that safety rules detailed in this instruction manual, on the trampoline frame
and on stickers of the product. If there is no supervisor available, trampoline may be disassembled or covered in
order to limit access. It is supervisor responsibility to set the safety advice label in order to be readable by every
user.
CLENCH LEGS POSITION
Proceed as you will do to make a standing jump, but at the top
of your jump, keep your legs clenched, raise them as shown by
the illustration, then lower them to land on your feet.
SPREAD LEGS POSITION
Proceed as you will do to make a clench legs jump, but spread
legs the most you can do, and try to touch your toes !
