Table 1: Troubleshooting splitting saw
Malfunction/fault
Possible cause
Remedy
1. Saw fails to start when switch
is pressed
(saw failure)
Power cable break
Check power supply line
In 42V model, check contactor
connection
Microswitch (6) defective
Check switch; replace, if
necessary
Front/rear cover not properly
closed, or not in proper position
Check covers and close to
establish contact
Power supply line not properly
connected to terminals
Check terminals and reconnect/
retighten
Motor winding defective
Dismantle motor, check winding;
replace, if necessary
Electrical connection of
microswitch (6) disconnected at
front operating lever or terminal
Reconnect or replace cable or
microswitch
3. Saw starts when switch is
actuated, but runs without
power
Power line cross-section or
lengths too small
Check dimensions according to
Anhang A.3.5
"Leitungsquerschnitte/ Cross-
sections of lines" (S. 18) and
change, if required
Voltage drop in supply network
Establish cause of voltage drop
and eliminate it (if required, use
Schmid and Wezel testing
equipment)
Saw band insufficiently tightened
Retighten with torque wrench
4. Saw sometimes fails to start
when switch is actuated or
starts/shuts down with a delay
Cables loose at the terminal
Check terminals and eliminate
problem
5. Excessive band wear
Guide plate of the front guide
wheel is secured too tightly or
jammed
Check for free movement; if
necessary, release with the
torque wrench and lubricate
Tightened with incorrect torque
Check with torque wrench
(torque too high)
