6.3 Setup Print Server’s IP Address
The pr int serve r mu st have a unique IP addre ss in order
to be recognized b y the network.
You can set up the IP addre ss on the va rious Unix
syste ms using an y one o f the follow in g m ethods:
1. DHCP (Dynamic Host Configu rat ion P rotocol)
2. BOOTP (B ootst rap Protocol)
The print ser ve r w ill u se the l ast thre e methods to
obtain its IP addr ess autom atically if it s IP addr e ss is
configured as Auto (0.0.0.0).
6 .3 .1 DHCP
There ar e many Unix syste ms that support DHCP
protocol, and the procedur es to configu re the DHC P ser ve r
database are different. This manual doe s not d escrib e the
DHC P ser ve r con figuration on the Unix system s. It is
highl y recom mend ed that the DHC P serve r should be
located on the sa me networ k a s the pr int ser ve r.
6 .3 .2 BOOTP
If you have the BOOTP daemon, bootpd, running on
your UNIX system that is ac ce ssible b y the pr int ser ver,
you can use the BOOTP protocol to set up the IP address o f
the print ser ve r. We re commend that the B OOTP ser ve r
should b e loc ated on the same subn et as the p rint ser ver. If
you u se Networ k In fo rmat ion Ser vice s (NIS ) in your system,
you ma y n eed to rebuild th e NIS map with the BOO TP
