EcoSpeed Electric Mid-Drive Installation And Assembly Instructions Download Page 6

1) Attach the motor/gearbox unit to the
motor plate using 4 M5 x 12mm button

head bolts. (photos 5 and 6).

Orient as

shown in photo 5. The arrow points to halfway
between the two chain openings in the gear-

box.

2) Thread chain through gearbox.

It goes

in easiest if you insert it from the bottom and

use a finger to rotate the sprocket inside the
gearbox. See photo 7.

3) Join the ends of the chain with mas-
ter link.

Refer to photos 8 for the proper way

to insert the included master link. Snap the

spring clip onto the link using a pair of needle
nose pliers.

NOTE:

 Most  Gold Rushes have a

welded cross tab between the lower

frame tubes. This cross tab is nor-
mally located such that the chain

needs to enclose it. If not, it must

be removed.

4) Remove bolts and retainer

plate from Spindle Assembly
(photo 9).

5) Leave the spacer shown in photo 10 in place.

This serves to

keep the spindle away from the motor plate when it is bolted down.

6) Place the spindle against
the motor plate with the chain

wrapped around the spindle

sprocket. (photo 11)

7) Align the bolt holes on the

rear of the spindle assembly
with the slots in the motor

plate (photo 12).

8) Attach the spindle assem-

bly to the motor plate using the

bolts, washers, and retainer
plate removed in step 8. (photo

13)

Do not tighten bolts until step 9.

9) Adjust motor chain tension.

Gently pull the spindle assembly towards the front of the motor

plate to take the slack out of the motor chain (photo 14). Lightly tighten a couple of the bolts. Rotate the

spindle 360 degrees looking for any location where the chain goes taut. If it doesn't, tighten the 5 bolts to
55 inch-lbs (6.2 N.m). If it does, loosen all bolts and move the spindle retainer a tiny amount towards the

motor and repeat this step.

10) Install the front chain tensioner.

Remove the slotted screw that attaches the pivot tube (black

cylinder) the tensioner noting the order of all of the spacers and washers.  Screw the pivot tube into the

(8) Installing Chain Master Link (proceed clock-

wise starting in upper left)
