Place Type EP 501/EP 501 C with assembly bridge on the
rotary actuator and attach (see „Fig. 8“).

If the X.TUNE ERROR 5 message is indicated on the
graphics display after the
X.TUNE
function starts, the shaft of
the Type EP 501 / EP 501 C is not correctly aligned with the
shaft of the actuator.
• Check alignment (as described previously in this chapter).
• Then repeat the
X.TUNE
function.

EXTERNAL PATH SENSOR
In case of this model, type EP 501 C has no internal position
sensor in the form of a rotary position sensor, but is connected to
an external 4–20 mA remote sensor. As this is connected via the
analog interface, type EP 501 L can be operated as a positioner
(position controller) only.

In principle, any path sensor with a 4 – 20 mA output can be con-
nected which has an adequate resolution of the path signal.
Good control properties are obtained if the resolution of the path
sensor allows at least 1000 measuring steps over the path to be
measured.
Example: Path sensor with 150 mm measurement range
