4.5 Beacon Bus connection
The Vw2 connects to the Sonix 2Mx beacon bus
communication channel via duplicated CAT6A cables,
using RS-485 serial standard. The Sonix PA/GA
convention is that the Beacon bus uses
PINK
coloured
CAT6A cables which connect to the colour coordinated
Beacon Bus sockets on the rear of the 2Mx unit.
How the unit is connected in the system depends on the
type of the system and the number of units.
4.5.1 Connecting Vw2 within standalone or A&B systems:
The 2Mx beacon bus connections are always top-top
and bottom-bottom, i.e. top port of Vw2 connects to the
top port of the Beacon Bus on the 2Mx. Whereas any
inter Vw2 connections are always top-bottom.
For single unit the return link (bottom port of Vw2)
connects to the bottom port of the Beacon Bus on the
2Mx, as shown below.
Figure 3 - Single Vw2 bus connections
Where multiple Vw2 units are connected, the bottom
connector of the first Vw2 unit connects to the top on
the next Vw2, until returning to the 2Mx, as shown
below.

4.5.2 Connecting Vw2 within N+1 systems:
Due to the nature of the N+1 configuration of the Sonix
system, the additional tapping board (PX10690060) is
required. For connection details, please refer to 2Mx
Technical Manual.

It is recommended that within the PA/GA cabinet the connecting
cables do not exceed 25 meters in length, regardless of the system
configuration.
4.6 Beacon power input connection
The Vw2 beacon input power terminals should be
connected to the required beacon supply. Each Vw2
input must be protected by an appropriately rated double
pole RCBO or equivalent.
Figure 5 - Vw2 Beacon power input
Accepted beacon voltages are as follows, if other
voltages are required please contact your local Eaton
representative:
•
48 V dc,
•
110 V ac,
•
240 V ac.
Maximum cable section supported by the unit input
port is:
Solid:
16.0 mm
2
Stranded:
16.0 mm
2
including sleeved or non-
sleeved ferrule
Warning:
A suitably rated RCBO MUST be
installed in the Vw2 input supply to disconnect
both sides of the supply.
4.6.1 Automatic redundant power switchover
The Sonix Vw2 unit does not have the ability to support
redundant power sources internally. If redundant
supplies are a requirement then using a dual-pole
change-over relay in the following connectivity is
recommended.
Figure 6 - Redundant power switchover connections
The relay will not be regularly switching under load and
can be sized for steady state current handling. The relay
must be suitable for 100% duty cycle.
Warning:
A suitably rated MCB MUST be
installed in the two beacon input supplies in
addition to the RCBO per Vw2 unit.
Warning:
The beacon supply MCBs and change-
over relay must be rated to supply ALL of the
attached beacon loops.
