6.3 Hardware configuration
Vw2 does not provide any jumpers nor switches on
the unit itself, therefore there is no need for hardware
configuration.
7 Unit customisation
Individual unit customisation is available. Please contact
your local Eaton representative if the standard operation
of Sonix system and/or Vw2 unit is not fulfilling the
needs of your system.
8 Maintenance
The following maintenance program represents the
minimum requirements for Sonix Vw2.
Warning:
Power off the system before
proceeding.
ote:
N
Do not use sharp objects, water, aggressive cleaning agents or
solvent to clean the unit.
•
Check the unit for visible damage (scratches or
bumps).
•
Check unit fixing to rack – tighten loose screws.
•
Check connections and cable integrity - replace
damaged cables, tighten Phoenix connectors.
•
Always replace the cover upon maintenance
completion.
Appendix A - Programming the unit
Warning:
Programming firmware is potentially
damaging to the unit if not performed correctly
by trained personnel and with Eaton tested and
approved firmware.
The Sonix Vw2 units are controlled by a Microsemi
ProASIC3 FPGA, with instant-on technology for fast
and reliable operation. To ensure correct operation of
the unit, it is supplied fully tested and pre-programmed
to the latest released version of Eaton Vw2 firmware
(unless specified otherwise). Eaton recommend that
firmware is only updated if there is a specific issue that
is resolved in the updated firmware.
Programming of the unit should only be performed by
Eaton trained and approved personnel.
1. Equipment required for programming units:
•
PC with Microsemi FlashPro 11.x software installed,
•
Microsemi FlashPro4 or newer programmer, complete
with connection cable (2x5 0.1’’ pitch)
•
Eaton firmware for target unit (firmware is dedicated
to each individual module and not interchangeable)
2. The programming procedure:
•
Connect power (48 V dc) to J3 connector, taking note
of the correct polarity (power can be supplied from
the rack or other rack-independent power supply),
•
Connect FlashPro programmer to J5 connector, taking
note of the notch orientation,
•
Using FlashPro software program and verify unit with
desired firmware file (see FlashPro documentation for
details),
•
Power-cycle programmed unit,
•
Use SAS application to:
•
Check or set the Unit ID,
•
Check or set the unit configuration.
•
Verify unit’s operation.
