Explosion-protected flameproof enclosures and distributions,
series: GHG 6.. and EXKO

Warning: In order to establish the type of
protection ”flameproof enclosure”, it is
essential to pay attention to the correct
mounting of the cable and cable entry.

To open a flameproof enclosure without switch
(see Fig. 3), the interlocking screw, item 3, in the
cover cam of the cover stop has to be unscrewed.
The cover, item 2, can then be removed from the
base, item 1, by turning it anticlockwise.

To open a flameproof enclosure with switch (see
Fig. 4), the switch shall be switched off at the
switch toggle, item 4. Then the screw in the
bore-hole of the switch toggle, item 3, can be
turned until idling, after which the cover, item 2,
can be removed from the base, item 1, by turning
it anticlockwise.

Warning: The cover shall be safeguarded
against falling off.

The covers of connections and bus bar boxes
shall be opened with the internal square spanner
supplied with the apparatus.

To maintain the explosion protection, conductors
shall be connected with special care.

The insulation shall reach up to the terminal.
The conductor itself shall not be damaged.

6.3.2  Ex-d cable entries /

  Ex-d blanking plugs

Generally only suitable certified flameproof
cable entries and certified flameproof
blanking plugs may be used.

The relevant mounting directives for flameproof
cables entries and blanking plugs shall be
observed.

In order to guarantee and/or establish the
explosion protection, unused entry holes
shall be sealed with a certified flameproof
blanking plug.

6.3.1  Ex-e cable entries (KLE);

  Ex-e blanking plugs

Generally only certified cable entries and
blanking plugs may be used. Flexible cables
shall be used with trumpet-shaped cable
glands or other suitable entries with
additional pull relief.

The relevant mounting directives for the
built-in cables entries shall be observed.

When using cable entries with a degree of
protection that is lower than the IP protection
of the apparatus (see Technical Data, page 9),
the  degree of IP protection for the complete
unit is reduced.

In order to ensure the minimum degree of
protection, any unused entry holes shall be sealed
with certified blanking plugs.

When fitting cable entries, care has to be taken
that the sealing inserts are suitable for the cable
diameter.

In the case of sealing inserts that are cut out, it is
necessary to ensure that the insert is properly
adapted to the cable diameter.

In order to ensure the required minimum degree of
protection, the cable entries shall be tightened
down securely.

Overtightening can impair the degree of
protection.

Warning: When tightening the cap nut of the
metal cable entry (e.g. type ADE; CMDEL), a
suitable tool shall be used to stop the gland
from twisting.

Any unused metric Cooper Crouse-Hinds / CEAG
moulded plastic cable entries shall be sealed with
the blanking plug certified for these metric cable
entries.

GB

The minimum and maximum conductor cross
sections that can be connected shall be observed
(see technical data).

All screws and/or nuts of connection terminals,
including those not in use, shall be tightened down
securely.

Excessive tightening can affect the connec-
tion.

The built-in standard terminals or terminal points
are designed for the direct connection of
conductors with copper wires.

The bus bars, bolt terminals and flameproof
bolt-type bushings can be connected using DIN
cable lugs.

Warning: The cable lugs shall be crimped onto
the cable in a workmanlike manner. It is
necessary to ensure that the minimum
required air gaps are maintained
(for 690V  >12 mm).

In the case of mixed Ex-e / Ex-i  installations,
the required minimum clearances shall be
maintained
(see, for example, IEC/EN 60079-11).

In the case of wired flameproof apparatus and
distributions, the circuit and connection plans
included with the apparatus shall be observed.

When connecting cables or wire to row terminals
the torques given in the table 1 page 2.

When using other terminals the respective torques
given by the manufacturer must be observed.
