free-fall, the best way to make the winch direct drive is to put a
3/8" bolt through the spool and shaft and
tighten it with a nut before you put the rope on
. Then on the side opposite the gearbox and motor, lower
the block so that the pin in the clutch plate
cannot
make contact with the block.
PART-TIME /TEMPORARY CONVERSION TO DIRECT DRIVE
:
When the clutch plate is tight against the spool, simply lower the clutch block so that the pin in the clutch plate
cannot make contact with the block and it will be direct drive. If you decide you want to go back to free fall, you
would just need to raise the clutch block so the pin makes contact with the block and it is then able to be used
in free fall again.
REBEL EMERGENCY FREE-SPOOL INSTRUCTIONS
:
If your boat should lose all power and you need to deploy
the anchor, there is an emergency free spooling feature that will allow you to do so. In order to do so, simply take off the
end cap of your gearbox and remove it’s shaft key on the side of the gearbox by unscrewing the large screw, which will
back out the drive key along with the bushing. Then retrieve the anchor rope.
COMMON TROUBLESHOOTING QUESTIONS FOR THE REBEL SERIES
*
*to see the general troubleshooting list, refer to page 8.
●
Problem
: The Pin is Not Hitting the Block/ Hitting Properly
Reason
1
: The block is not raised
Reason
2
: There is no pin for the block to touch
or
the pin is stuck
or
damaged
or
the spool has moved
IF
1:
The block is supposed to be held by a screw, but sometimes the screw is loose, making the
block fall. Unscrew the block, push it up closer to the pin, then screw it back in.
IF
2:
The pin may have become loose and has become misplaced or lost.

Problem
: My Unit will not Free-Fall
Reason
1
: The clutch pin is not hitting the clutch block
Reason
2
: There is a bolt through the drive shaft
IF
1:
The clutch block has been lowered into temporary free-fall. Raise your block so the pin
does come into contact with the block.
IF
2:
Unfortunately, putting a bolt through the shaft of your Rebel anchor winch makes it a permanent direct drive. If you
want to go back to free-fall, you must remove all rope and chain from the spool and remove the bolt that’s holding the spool
and drive shaft together.
