How to Add Fluid
In cold operation, Allison
recommends using Synthetic
Transmission Fluid approved to
Allison Transmission specification
TES-295 in areas where the
minimum ambient temperatures
are below
−
40°C (
−
40°F).
Refer to the Maintenance
Schedule to determine what
kind of transmission fluid to use.
See
Recommended Fluids and
Lubricants on page 11
‑

.
Add fluid only after checking the
transmission fluid while it is hot.
A cold check is used only as a
reference. If the fluid level is low,
add only enough of the proper fluid
to bring the level up to the HOT area
for a hot check. It doesn't take much
fluid, generally less than 0.5 L
(1 pint). Do not overfill.
Notice:
Use of the incorrect
automatic transmission fluid may
damage the vehicle, and the
damages may not be covered by
the vehicle warranty. Always use
the automatic transmission fluid
listed in
Recommended Fluids
and Lubricants on page 11

.
.
After adding fluid, recheck the
fluid level as described under
“
How to Check.
”
.
When the correct fluid level is
obtained, push the dipstick back
in all the way.
When to Check and Change
(Van Models)
Change the fluid and filter at the
intervals listed. See
Scheduled
Maintenance on page 11

.
And be sure to use the transmission
fluid listed in
“
Recommended
Fluids and Lubricants
”
. See

Lubricants on page 11

information.
How to Check
Because this operation can be a
little difficult, the decision may be
made to have this done at the
dealership service department.
If the decision is made to perform
this operation, be sure to follow all
the instructions here, or a false
reading on the dipstick could result.
