Appendix 6: Diagnostic diagram
Problem
Excessive damage to heat exchanger
Thermal protection activated
Pump does not work
Possible cause
Possible solution
Too little wood or wood too moist
Use wood with no more than 20% moisture. Preferably leave wood
to dry for 2 years. Use enough wood: 2 to 3 logs (2.6 kg/45 min).
Condensation in heat exchanger due to
incorrect minimum return temperature
Correct or repair the minimum return temperature controller.
Inadequate venting of pipelines
Be sure to fit a breather valve on the highest point of the installation.
This can be a manual or an automatic valve.
Water pressure in installation too low
Recommended water pressure is 1.5 - 2 bar. Check the pressure
setting on the expansion tank.
No heat is released to the heating sys-
tem
Check that the circulation pump is on.
Heating system can no longer absorb
energy
Open the damper and stop stoking the fire.
No voltage
Check mains voltage.
Pump does not start after prolonged idle
period
Open the vent screw on the front side of the pump and set the pump
shaft in motion with a screwdriver.
Pump shaft rotates, but does not get the
water to circulate.
Replace the pump.
Water pressure (volume flow) too low
Check the pressure on the air side of the expansion tank. Top up
with water if necessary.
Thermostat sensors have not reached
switching temperature yet
Flue gas temperature must be > 120°C or water temperature
> 80°C.
Subject to change because of technical improvements
