Channels, which are not used, should not be encoded. The encoding of the DRD 3 can
be done without any connection to the Dupline bus and is carried out using the flat pack
encoding cable DKP 2. The correct polarity of the plug has to be observed (see connec-
tion diagram). The encoding remains permanently but can be overwritten at any time.
13. Mounting
13.1. Choice of Mounting Location
The smoke detector must be fixed to the ceiling as near as possible to the centre of the
room. One DRD 3 can monitor a room with a maximum floor area of 60 m² with a ceiling
hight of up to 6 m. In hallways and narrow corridors (up to 3 m width) the detector mon-
itors a distance up to 7.5 m in each direction. A gap of at least 0.5 m must be maintained
from walls and furniture.
To achieve a minimum protection, one DRD 3 should be installed in front of the of each
sleeping area respectively in each floor. A better protection will be reached if one smoke
detector is present in every room (except for the kitchen and the bath - here, false alarms
are possible due to steam development).
13.2. Unsuitable Locations
Never install the smoke detector
• near to ventilation ducting or strong draughts
• directly in the apex of pitched roofs (a minimum distance of 50 cm from the apex
must be kept)
• in rooms where - under normal conditions - a lot of steam, dust or smoke is present
(for example in workshops, bathrooms and laundry rooms)
• in rooms where the temperature rises above +60°C or falls below 0°C.
13.3. Connection
The following steps are referring to chapter 19 “Anschlussschema / Connection Dia-
gram” on page 11.
1. For installation the base of the DRD 3 has to be removed from the housing by
screwing it anticlockwise. Install the base (1) with fitted installation material (3). Do
not use countersunk screws.
2. In case of surface-mounted Dupline signal conductors, break out one of the four
cable feed-through holes (2) with a screw driver or similar.
3. The connection of the dismantled PCB (A) to the Dupline bus now is done directly
at the screw terminals (B) on the PCB:
b. Active when bus signal lines are connected and smoke detector is working: every 43 s
this channel is active for two cycles resp. pulsing on alarm.
