WARNING!
Do not attempt to push or tow your vehicle to get it
started. Vehicles equipped with an automatic trans-
mission cannot be started this way. Unburned fuel
could enter the catalytic converter and once the
engine has started, ignite and damage the converter
and vehicle. If the vehicle has a discharged battery, a
12 Volt battery charger may be used to charge the
vehicle. This type of start can be dangerous if done
improperly. See section 6 of this manual for the
proper jump-starting procedures and follow them
carefully.
HYBRID SYSTEM OPERATION
Your Hybrid vehicle is a unique vehicle that combines the
power of a gasoline engine and electric motors to mini-
mize fuel consumption and emissions. This vehicle re-
quires no special fuels and never has to be plugged in.
Understanding the unique characteristics of your vehicle
will help ensure maximum performance from your ve-
hicle.
Your Hybrid vehicle is also equipped with two electrical
voltage systems. A 12 Volt system which is used to power
the conventional electrical system and a high voltage
system which is used to power the motors in the trans-
mission as well as the high voltage system components.
Normal Hybrid Operation
Shifting
You must depress the brake pedal fully before shifting
out of PARK. During this first brake apply, the brake
system is undergoing a self-test function. The brake pedal
