STARTING PROCEDURES
Before starting your vehicle, adjust your seat, adjust both
inside and outside mirrors, and fasten your seat belts.
NOTE:
This vehicle is not compatible with any after-
market remote starting systems. The installation of after-
market remote starting systems is NOT recommended.
Turn the key to the START position while your vehicle is
in PARK. The Hybrid system strategy, which optimizes
fuel economy, determines if it is necessary to start the
gasoline engine. The gasoline engine may either shut off
shortly after starting or not start at all, depending on
temperature and battery charge level. This is a normal
part of your Hybrid’s fuel-saving strategies. Once the
“READY” light illuminates, the vehicle is ready to be
driven and the Hybrid system is active. Refer to “Hybrid
Gauge” in Section 4 of this supplement manual.
WARNING!
•
Pay special attention to pedestrians when the
vehicle is operating under battery power only.
Because there is no engine noise, pedestrians may
not know the vehicle is moving or about to move
and step into the path of the vehicle, causing
serious injury or death.
•
When your vehicle is left unattended, be sure to
turn off the Hybrid system.
•
When the vehicle is in “READY” mode, do not
leave your vehicle unattended in any shift posi-
tion other than PARK. The vehicle may creep and
start abruptly if the accelerator pedal is depressed
by mistake, causing serious injury or death.
