Either installation meets all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
In some vehicles one or the other might give you a correct installation.

• This car seat should NEVER be installed using both the lower
anchors and the seat belt at the same time. It is not tested this
way. Therefore, we cannot determine if this is a safe way to install
the car seat.
