Flexible Configuration
³The switch is designed to segment your network and to
provide a wide range of options in setting up network connections. It can be used as a
simple standalone switch, or it can be connected with standard repeater hubs, switches,
or other network interconnection devices through various configurations.
Some of the common applications for the DEL8X are described and illustrated in the next
sections
Collapsed Backbone for Starter Network
The DEL8X is an excellent choice for new Ethernet installations where significant growth
is expected in the near future (see the following figure). You can easily build on this basic
configuration, adding direct full
²duplex connections to PCs, workstations, or servers (up to
200 Mb/s of dedicated bandwith per node). When further expansion is needed, you can then
cascade any IEEE 802.3 or IEEE 802.3u compliant switch or hub. The switch can also be
easily integrated with any upper
²level protocol devices you later add into the network, such
as a firewall router.
