FastPort User’s Guide
F-2
5. MIL-3100CX, MIL-3110FTX, and MIL-3500X FastPorts have an alternate
EEPROM bank to boot FastPort if the primary bank fails. To reboot
FastPort on its alternate flash image:
a. Remove the two screws on the front panel of the unit.
b. If there is one, remove the middle screw (next to the UTP port) on
the rear panel of the unit.
c. Slide the cover off the enclosure.
d. Locate the “boot” jumper (near the front of the DIP switch bank).
e. Remove the jumper block and place it on only one pin. If it is
already on one pin, place it on the first two pins.
f. Replace the cover (back over the enclosure) and power cycle
FastPort. Unit reboots on the alternate bank. If it still fails, contact
Digi’s LAN technical support.
6. MIL-3200X FastPort has an alternate EEPROM bank to boot FastPort if
the primary bank fails. To reboot FastPort on its alternate flash image:
a. Move the front switch D4: Up if it is Down (vice-versa).
b. Power cycle FastPort. Unit reboots on the alternate bank. If it still
fails, contact Digi’s LAN tech. support.
When powered-up, the unit boots-up on its alternate bank. If the device
fails to recover, notify Digi’s LAN technical support.
F.2.1 Completing the Upload
Except for the MIL-3400X, all versions of FastPort holds two firmware
images. After upgrade, the new image is stored in the main bank, while the
old image is stored in the alternate. Both banks should be upgraded to the
same firmware because:
•
Alternate update is automatically used if the main bank is corrupt. This
could cause confusion if it is different.
•
Some parameter storage operations require both banks to be identical.
This may fail if the banks are not identical.
To compare the images, make a telnet or serial connection to the FastPort’s
configuration/monitor mode and use command [
F
] (flash firmware load
enable/disable). Once satisfied with the firmware version, copy it to the
alternate bank so that both banks contain the same image. Use the
Copy
this Image into Other Bank
command.
