Upon gateway restart, the retry coefficient and max attempt values for each component
are logged as they are initialized so you can confirm the new settings. The combination of
these two settings provide valuable flexibility for each component’s retry characteristics.
For example, image upload retries would normally be set to happen quickly and only for
a few attempts to avoid thrashing. However, HL7 message upload attempts would likely
be set to occur over a much longer time period and a very high number of attempts (until
success) to avoid lost messages due to grid outages, etc.
Custom Queue Component Retry Configurations
A specific queue component’s default retry delay time and/or max number of attempts can be
modified with the gateway configurations for “custom_queue_retry_coefficient” and “custom_
queue_max_attempts”. These configurations take JSON strings as input to describe the appropriate
values for any number of queue components.
The following queue components can be adjusted:
hl7upload
•
upload
•
moveclient
•
queryclient
•
retrieveclient
•
download
•
delete
•
For example, setting “custom_queue_retry_coefficient” to the following JSON value will set the
retry coefficients to 10, 5 and 20 for the hl7upload, download and queryclient queue components,
respectively, where the value is in seconds and the retry is delayed by: “attempt_count**3 *
queuecomponent_retry_coefficient”.
{
‘hl7upload_retry_coefficient’:’10’,
‘download_retry_coefficient’:’5’,
‘queryclient_retry_coefficient’:’20’
}
Likewise, setting “custom_queue_max_attempts” to the following JSON value will set the maximum attempts to
100 and 20 for the hl7upload and moveclient queue components, respectively.
{
‘hl7upload_max_attempts’:’100’,
‘moveclient_max_attempts’:’20’
}
The default settings for all queue components not specifically set (if these configurations are left
blank, then none are specifically set) is a retry coefficient of 3 and a maximum of 10 attempts.
