A system board problem can result from a defective system board component, a 
faulty power supply, or a defective component connected to the system board. If an 
error message indicates a system board problem or if the power supply fan does not 
spin when power is on, follow these steps:

Reseat the control panel cable and the power cable connectors from the 
power supply to the system board (see Figure 2-4 for connector locations).

b.

Remove the primary hard-disk drive as described in steps 2 and 3 of 
“Primary Hard-Disk Drive Bay” in Chapter 3. Disconnect the DC power cable 
connectors to all other drives 

except for the 3.5-inch diskette drive.

c.

Disconnect all devices attached to the computer except the keyboard and 
monitor.

NOTE: System start-up time is extended if you removed the primary hard-disk 
drive in step 3. Ignore any error messages received during the boot routine in this 
situation.
