6.2.8 Vehicle Ignition Interference
The Railmaster™ has been designed to operate from the vehicle’s
cigarette lighter receptacle, or portable 12VDC battery pack, or
from the 6 internal AA Nickel-Metal-Hydride batteries located in
the base of the handle . When connected to the cigarette lighter
receptacle it should be noted that some vehicles exhibit excessive
alternator noise at the lighter receptacle . In these rare cases, the
radar can exhibit erratic readings, especially when the vehicle’s
electrical system is operated under heavy load . Wiring an accessory
outlet directly to the battery minimizes the effect . If you are
operating off of the gun’s internal batteries or off of a portable
battery pack then vehicle ignition interference will not be a factor .
If you suspect your vehicle’s electrical system, contact Decatur
Electronics’ Customer Service Department for more information .
7. Testing the Device
7.1 Self Test on Power Up
When you first power up the Railmaster™ it runs a self test and checks
the following:
Display Test–
The display test verifies that the digit segments and
status icons are working correctly and that none of the pixels in the
number segments are damaged .
Circuitry Test–
The system checks the internal circuitry . If the unit
passes all internal checks the display will change from the display
test as seen in Figure 4 .2 .2a to the operation mode as seen in Figure
4 .2 .2b . If the circuitry test fails, then "FAIL" will show in the display .
If this happens, turn the radar off and back on again . If the problem
persists, contact Decatur Electronics' Customer Service Department
at 800 .428 .4315 to arrange for service .
