ENGINE
Oil Pu,np Strainer
This surrounds the oil pump and is accessible after removing the plate
fitted to the engine sump cover (Fig.
11)
and draining the oil from the
. engine. It is held in position hy a single setscrew in the centre of the base
of the strainer. To clean, remove it from the pump, rinse in. paraffin so
that all sediment is removed and refit-do not forget to refill
the
engine
sump after fitting the drain plate.
Oil Cleaner

and element plate are removed. When the element is cleaned or ienewed,
drain the filter housing by removing the drain plug ( do not forget to replace
it). Renew the cover gasket. Fit the gasket and cover in exactly the
same position as before removal.
Fan Belt Adjustment
The fan belt should never he run taut. Undue slackness is taken up
by releasing the setscrew securing the front half of the pulley to the fan
hub: rotate the front half of -the pulley clockwise, keeping the huh
statio_nary, until by using only light finger pressure a deflection of one
and-a-half inches is obtained at the centre of one side of the belt. The
front half of the pulley should he held in the new position until the setscrew
has been tightened.
Governor Adjustment
Unscrew spring " C '' (Fig.
15)
and detach throttle control rod "R"
from carburettor. Move control so that the governor rod "A" (Fig.
16)
is drawn the slightest fraction towards the seat, lifting the cam " B " just
off the heel of the control lever. By hand manipulation of the throttle
lever "L" (Fig.
15),
run the engine smartly, say about
1,000
r.p.m.,
slacken locknut " C" (Fig.
16)
and unscrew thrust button "D," when the
lever " F " can be moved loosely against the end of the push rod " E,"
