OPERATING THE TRACTOR
Road Work
If it is known that relatively large distances will be travelled on the
road it is advisable to fit pneumatics and thus be sure of a comfortable
ride at higher speeds. When the tractor has to he taken on to the road
fitted with steel wheels, road bands ri:.mst be fitted and the speed kept down
to below 6 m.p.h., which will minimise excessive vibration. This speed is
obtained when the engine is governed at 1,300 r.p.m. (normal governed
position) and second gear is engaged (in the
high range
on tractors :fitted
with 6-speed gearboxes).

Fitting Instructions
Drain oil from transmission case and remove rear axle cover plate.
Clean the machined surface of the axle and, if necessary, :fit. new gasket,
which can be retained in position by lightly smearing with grease.
The pipe adjacent the crown wheel maintains a constan,:t oil 'level in
the unit and is supplied from the power lift or gearbox top "'s
_
haft bearing
pump (the latter when tractor is supplied without power lift), •
.
The angle
of the pipe should he re-set so that it protrudes into the unit -through the
hole provided.
.
After making sure that the pipe is correct, push the unit gently forward
until the splined shaft engages with the rear gearbox coupling sleeve and
secure it to the axle.
Tighten all bolts progressively.
