BOOT (cont)
NOTE: The manual
Installing the DG/UX
System
contains a complete discussion of
the DG/UX Common Format for device naming as it applies to all system
devices. If you do not use the DG/UX system, refer to your operating system
documentation for information about deviceĆnaming conventions.
First–Stage Argument
The device specification (first-stage boot) consists of a mnemonic that identifies the
type of device and names the device driver, plus three optional parameters that provide
additional information to fully specify that device.
Boot device syntax includes the device mnenomic (
device
), followed by open and close
parentheses. Mnemonics are always in lowercase type. The minimum specification is
. The three optional parameters are included inside the parentheses,
separated by a comma or a space, as follows:
device([controller],[unit],[lun#])
Table B-3 lists the mnemonic names for bootable devices and defines the optional
parameters for each device.

Device Type
NOTE: These specifications assume that disk and tape drive jumpers are set
according to their factory configuration.
When a parameter value is numeric, it uses zero-based logical numbering; when you
use 0 you are specifying the
first
value for that parameter. Device drivers interpret
missing parameters as 0, so you can omit a number-based parameter to specify its
first
value.
NOTE: Even when all three device parameters are 0 and are therefore omitted, you
must
include both the open and close parentheses after the device mnemonic.
