32 DIESEL ENGINE
BATTERY (OPTIONAL)
CAUTION
To avoid personal injury :
!
Avoid contact with battery electrolyte. Sul-
furic acid will burn the skin and destroy
clothing. If contact occurs, flush thoroughly
with clean water. Wear eye protection.
FOR SAFETY AND BEST RESULTS:
1. Always handle batteries with care to avoid damage,
spillage, or shorting. Keep from sparks or flame.
2. Check the electrolyte level during routine service. Add dis-
tilled water when the level is low. Do not overfill. Flush any
spillage with clean water to prevent injury or equipment
damage.
3. Check battery posts and terminals for corrosion. Clean as
required.
4. When charging the battery, always follow the charger
manufacturer’s instructions. Be careful to observe the cor-
rect polarity to prevent battery damage or possible
explosion.
5. High-output or quick-charging should only be used for
emergencies. Excessive use of high-output chargers will
shorten battery life.
6. Keep the battery fully charged to avoid downtime.
IMPORTANT
Ensure that the wing nut for the filter element
is tight. A loose element or loose cover will
allow dust ingestion that can severely damage
the engine. Always check air intake clamps for
tightness.
