Jump-Starting the Vehicle
NOTICE: Before jump-starting the vehicle, check the condition of the drained battery.
1.
Connect the positive (+) battery terminal of the charged battery to positive battery terminal of the drained battery.
2.
Connect the negative (–) battery terminal of the charged battery to frame of vehicle with the drained battery.
The battery can release hydrogen gas that is explosive. To decrease the
risk of an explosion, prevent sparks near the battery. Always connect the
negative jumper cable to the frame of the vehicle with the drained bat-
tery.
3.
When the cables are connected, start the engine on the vehicle with the good battery, then start the vehicle with the
drained battery.
Charge the Battery
Charge the battery in a well-ventilated area. The battery can release
hydrogen gas that is explosive. To prevent an explosion, keep any device
that can cause sparks or flames away from the battery.
When the battery charger is activated stay away from the battery.
A battery that is damaged can cause an explosion.
Read the battery charger manual for specific instructions on charger operation.
When possible, remove the battery from the vehicle before charging.
If the battery is not sealed, check to make sure the electrolyte level is above the plates in all cells.
With the battery charger turned OFF, connect the battery to the terminals as specified in the battery charger manual.
Always turn the battery charger OFF before disconnecting the charger from the terminals.
ENGINE EXHAUST
Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide in exhaust
fumes can increase to dangerous levels rapidly. To prevent carbon mon-
oxide poisoning, inspect the complete exhaust system every month and
replace damaged components immediately.
NEVER operate the engine without adequate ventilation.
The temperature of the exhaust components can be greater than 300° F
(149° C). To prevent the burns, do not touch a hot exhaust system.
The exhaust system consists of:
•
exhaust manifold
•
muffler
•
exhaust pipes.
If you detect a change in the color or sound of the exhaust, stop the engine immediately. Identify the problem and have
the system repaired.
Torque all exhaust manifold hardware equally. Tighten or replace the exhaust clamps.
