seconds after the last press of a button.

Microphone/headphone set

To be able to use the portable radio transmitter with the external microphone/headphone set (not included in
the package and available under the Order No. 655521 as an option),

Functions and settings

Switching the portable radio transmitter on/off

To switch the portable radio transmitter on or off, press and hold the On/Off button (4) near the antenna of
the portable radio transmitter longer than 2 seconds.

Activating/deactivating keypad lock

To activate or deactivate the keypad lock, press the “Monitor” button (2) and the “

” button (8) simultane-

ously. The PTT key (1) will not be blocked – thus you can send and receive signals even with the keypad
lock active.

Adjusting volume

The volume of the portable radio transmitter can be controlled by “

” (8) and “

” (7) buttons in 16 steps.

Setting channels

Press and hold the MODE button (9) for longer than 2 seconds. The display “CH” starts to

fl

 ash. Select the

desired channel using the “

” (8) and “

” buttons (7), and con

fi

rm your entry by pressing the PTT key

(1) once. Radio signals can be received or transmitted by other transmitters only if all devices are set on
the same channel.

Setting CTCSS/DCS code

The CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) and DCS codes (Digital Coded Squelch) are used to
create selective user groups in radio communication on the same carrier frequency.
First, press and hold the MODE button (9) for longer than 2 seconds. As “CH” channel display starts

fl

 ash-

ing, press the MODE button (9) one more time to proceed to the CTCSS/DCS menu. Choose the desired
CTCSS/DCS code with the “

” (8) and “

” (7) buttons, and con

fi

rm your choice by pressing the PTT

key once.

Transmitting

Make sure

fi

rst that the channel of your choice is free and that you receive no unwanted signals after switch-

ing on the portable transmitter. Otherwise, begin by choosing some other channel for all devices involved. All
devices should be set on the same channel.
To send a message, press and hold the PTT key (1) and speak into the microphone at a normal volume.
When you release the PTT key, you revert to the receiving mode.

Receiving signal

Choose the same channel as all other devices involved. If CTCSS or DCS displays are

fl

 ashing on your

LCD screen, then your CTCSS/DCS code does not coincide with the code of other radio devices. In this
case, you should adjust your CTCSS/DCS code to that of the other radio devices to be able to receive their
signals. With the “off” setting, you switch the CTCSS/DCS pilot tone off. Then you will be able to receive the
signals of all other participants but unable to send any transmissions yourself to the participants with different
CTCSS/DCS settings.

VOX (hands-free system)

In the VOX mode, the portable radio transmitter reacts to your voice or noises and transmits them automati-
cally without requiring you to press the PTT key. First, press and hold the MODE button (9) for longer than
2 seconds. As the “CH” channel display starts

fl

ashing, press the MODE button repeatedly until the “VO”

display appears. Using the “

” (8) and “

” buttons (7), choose between “off”, “lo” (low sensitivity) or

“hi” (high sensitivity) for the hands-free mode settings. Finally, press the PTT key (1) to con

fi

 rm the entry.

SCAN (channel search)

Searches the available radio channels for radio activities.
To start or terminate the channel search, press the “Monitor” button (2) and the “

” button (7) simultane-

ously.

DW SCAN (dual watch – monitoring two channels)

In dual watch mode, you can continuously monitor two frequencies for radio activities. As soon as a radio
signal received, the radio transmitter holds to this frequency for the moment.
First, press and hold the MODE button (9) for longer than 2 seconds. As the “CH” channel display starts

fl

ashing, press the MODE button repeatedly until the “dc” display appears. Using the “

” (8) and “

”

(7) buttons, choose one of the channels from 1 to 8 or “off” to exit the dual watch mode. Con

fi

 rm the entry

by pressing the PTT key (1).

Transferring settings to another TS446 portable radio transmitter

On the transmitter whose settings you want to transfer (Host), press the “On” button (“ON”) (4) and “

” (8)

simultaneously. The indicator “CL---” appears on the display.
On the transmitter that will adopt the settings of the host device (SUB), press the “On” button (“ON”) (4) and

“ (7) simultaneously. The indicator “Pr---” appears on the display.

Connect the mini-USB sockets (12) of both radio transmitters with a cable. After that, the settings of the host
device will be transferred to the sub-device automatically. As soon as the transfer is completed, the indicator
“Pass---” appears on the LCD display of the host device.
If you want to transfer the settings of the host device to another radio transmitter, connect the latter to the
host device via the mini-USB cable. Then press the PTT key (1) on the host device. The transfer procedure
is completed as soon as the “Pass---” indicator appears in the display of the host device.

SQUELCH Level (noise suppression)

SQUELCH is used to suppress ambient noises during radio breaks.
First, press and hold the MODE button (9) for longer than 2 seconds. As the “CH” channel display starts

fl

ashing, press the MODE button repeatedly until the “SL” display starts blinking. Press the “

” (8) and

” (7) buttons to choose from

fi

ve levels of noise suppression. Finally, con

fi

rm the entry by pressing the

PTT key (1) once.

It is recommended to keep to the standard setting “1”. Although higher squelch levels enhance
the noise suppression, they can also lead to weak signals no longer being transmitted.
