Intended Use
The product is intended to be used as decorative light for orientation and athmosphere in
garden and terrace areas. In these areas the solar powered light can be used to mark paths at
night or to give a discreet romantic garden illumination.
The batteries are charged during daylight via the integrated solar panel. The solar light turns
on automatically when it gets dark and is then powered by the battery. As illuminant two LEDs
(light-emitting diode) are used. These LED guarantee a relatively high luminous intensity at low
power consumption.
In daylight the light is turned off.
The solar light is designed for private use and is not suitable for commercial use. Any use other
than described above is not permissible.
The safety and mounting instructions of these operating instructions are to be observed!
This product complies with the applicable National and European specifications.
Safety instructions
Please read the operating instructions through completely. They contain im-
portant information for correct operation. In the case of any damage which is
caused due to the failure to observe these operating instructions, the guaran-
tee will expire. We do not accept liability for consequential damage!
We do not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused
by improper handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such
cases the guarantee will lapse!
• The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible for
safety and approval reasons (CE).
• Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures, strong vibrations or strong
mechanical stress.
• Do not carelessly leave the packaging material lying around since this may be-
come a dangerous toy for children.
• Do not allow children to play with the device. Children cannot comprehend the
danger arising from incorrect use of electrical devices.
• The product is protected against humidity. It must not, however, be placed directly
in water or exposed to extreme wetness.
• In order to avoid any injury of the eyes never look directly into the light and never
direct the light beam at people or animals.
Mounting and positioning
Choose an appropriate position, e.g. alongside a terrace, a garden path or a flower bed.
In order to charge the battery sufficiently the product has to be placed in a way the solar panel
on top of the lamp will be exposed as long as possible to sunlight. Ensure the solar panel is
not covered or shaded.
Do not place the solar light under bushes, trees, porches etc. because it would reduce the solar
radiation. In such cases the solar panel will not be working efficiently and the battery will not be
charged sufficiently. When the solar radiation hits the panels at the correct incidence angle the
solar panel can work at an optimal level.
The solar light should be placed in a way that the solar panel is exposed to sunlight
for at least for 8 hours a day.
Do not place the solar light directly beside other light sources such as yard lights,
street light etc. otherwise the solar light will not switch on at night.
The solar light is not suited to being driven on by vehicles. Therefore it must not be placed in
driveways.
Do not step violently on the glass of the solar light. Although it is several millimetres thick it can
break, however, on impact. Loss of guaranty/warranty!
A hole of 100 mm in diameter and 45 mm of depth is necessary for the mounting the solar
light. The solar light is then simply inserted into this hole. Due to the weight there is no need
to fasten it.
Handling of batteries
Two NiMH batteries, size AAA/Micro, are inbuilt. For safety reasons they can only be ex-
changed using tools (screwdriver).
Please observe the following safety instructions concerning the handling of batteries:
• Batteries do not belong in the hands of children. Do not leave the batteries openly lying
around. There is the danger that children or pets swallow them, danger to life! In case of
swallowing contact a doctor immediately.
• Make sure that the batteries are not opened, bypassed or thrown into a fire. They could
explode.
• Ensure to connect them correctly when inserting/exchanging the batteries (observe plus/+
and minus/-)
• Old or exhausted batteries can release chemical liquids, thus damaging the device. A leaking
or damaged battery can cause chemical burns to skin when touched without using of adequte
protective gloves.
• Only use batteries of the correct size and the recommended type.
• Never use standard batteries, but only rechargeable batteries for the solar light, because
standard batteries must not be recharged. Otherwise there is the danger of fire or explosion!
Operation
If there is a protection foil on the solar panel/on the top, please remove it now.
At the first use the solor light requires about 24 hours of sunlight (in the summer months, accor-
dingly, longer in the other seasons) to charge the installed batteries.
Underneath of the solar light there is a round switch for turning on/off the lamp (when the switch
is impressed it is in position “ON”).
Position “ON”:
The solar light is working. At low ambient brightness the LED-light switches on
automatically, at normal brightness it turns off again.
Position “OFF”:
The solar light is turned off, the LEDs will not be activated.
The batteries of the solar light will be recharged when the sun shines
irrespective
of the position of the switch.
Which means, even if the solar light is turned off the battery inside will be charged.
General handling of solar lights
The performance of the solar light depends on the duration and strength of the sunlight in the
different seasons.
In extended periods without sufficient sunlight (esp. in the winter) the state of charge of the
batteries can be too low for lighting longer time. During the day the batteries are recharged with
less energy than they consume at night. Inevitably this shortens the duration of the lighting.
That way the batteries can be totally discharged and thus be damaged.
Therefore you should switch off the solar light in good time (switch position “OFF”).
Keep the top of the solar light with the solar panel clean. Make sure that the top is
not dirty or coverd with snow and ice. This would reduce the performance of the
solar panel.
Cold temperatures also have a negative impact on the operating time of the batteries (shorter
lighting period of the LEDs at night).
Regarding an extended and faultless operation time it is recommended to store the solar light
in a dry and warm room in the winter or in case of longer periods of disuse. For this you should
switch off the solar light (switch position “OFF”).
You can also remove the batteries when storing the lamp and recharge them in an appropriate
battery charger. Observe the following chapter for removing or exchanging the batteries.
