Installation
If you do not have the expertise to perform the installation, please arrange for
the installation to be carried out by an expert or a suitable specialist shop!
Switch off the computer in which the mounting frame is to be installed as well
as all connected devices and separate all devices from the mains voltage; pull
out the mains plug! Just turning off at the on/off switch is not enough!
• Open your computer’s housing and carefully remove the cover.
• Locate a free PCIe slot, remove the respective slot cover and insert the card into the PCIe
slot. Screw down the plug-in card (unless the computer case you use provides an option of
screwless installation).
To install the plug-in card in a flat computer casing, a short slot bracket is provided.
Remove the long slot bracket (3) from the plug-in card and then mount the short slot
plate.
• Connect the power connection (3) of the plug-in card with a suitable SATA connector of the
PC power supply.
If your PC power module has no suitable free power connector, then you need a suitable
adapter (not included in the plug-in card scope of supply).
Important:
The SATA connector (3) of the plug-in card must be connected to an appropriate
connector of your PC power module. Otherwise, the connected USB device will
have problems functioning (the external USB device does not receive sufficient
power supply).
• Connect SATA ports (4) with your drives (e.g. SATA hard disk, SATA-SSD or an optical drive).
• The plug-in card has a 2-pin strip for LED connection. It is intended for indication of read/write
access at both SATA ports. When connecting note proper polarity, otherwise the LED won’t
function. Plus (+) and minus (-) signs are indicated near the pin strip on the board.
• Close the computer housing.
• Connect the computer and monitor to the mains voltage again and switch on all devices.
• If your computer does not start correctly, switch it off immediately and check all the settings
and cable connections.
Before opening the PC again, disconnect the PC from the mains voltage, see above!
Driver installation
Installing USB3.0 driver
• MacOS operating system (10.8.4, 10.8.5 or 10.9 and higher is needed), Windows 8 or Linux
Kernel 2.6.31 and newer detects the card automatically and installs the required drivers.
These drivers are integral parts of an operating system. In this case, there is no need in
USB3.0 driver from the delivered CD.
• For the older versions of Windows OS (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), the driver
should be installed from the CD. Cancel the automatic search for drivers or the hardware
recognition.
Insert the supplied data carrier into the respective drive of your computer. Start the Windows
file manager.
Open the “USB3.0 Host“ directory, and then the folder „ASM104x“ contained therein, and
then the “Windows” directory.
Double click the “setup.exe” file.
Follow all the instructions of the Windows installation wizard.
Installing the driver for the SATA connector
• MacOS operating system (10.8.4, 10.8.5 or 10.9 and higher is needed), Windows 8 or Linux
Kernel 2.6.31 and newer detects the card automatically and installs the required driver.
These drivers are integral parts of an operating system. In this case, there is no need for the
SATA driver from the CD provided.
• However, if you want to use the port multiplier function in Windows, you will have to install the
SATA driver from the CD.
The port multiplier function enables the operation of several SATA devices using a
single SATA port of the controller. For this purpose, a special adapter is needed (not
included in the delivery, available on separate order) for plugging in SATA devices
(e.g. in a hard disk case). Yet a single SATA cable is needed to connect the controller
and adapter.
Open the directory “SATA6G” and then the “ASM 1061” folder contained therein.
• Double click the “setup.exe” file.
• Follow all instructions of the Windows installation wizard.
After the driver has been installed, it is necessary to restart before the plug-in card can work
correctly.
Tips and notes
USB 2.0/1.1 devices
• It is possible, of course, to operate all “old” USB2.0/1.1 devices with a USB3.0 port. Simply
connect the USB device to one of the USB3.0 ports on the plug-in card.
Use conventional USB 2.0/1.1 connection cables to connect the devices.
• Normally, USB2.0/1.1 devices do not become any faster when operated on a USB3.0 port of
the plug-in card. However, if the USB2.0 controller on the motherboard works relatively slowly
it is possible, for example, that USB2.0 hard disks can transfer data faster via a USB3.0 port
on the plug-in card.
