USB 3.0 devices
• In order to connect a USB3.0 device, a USB3.0 cable is necessary. At first glance, the
USB3.0-A plug looks similar to a conventional USB2.0/1.1 plug, however, it has additional
internal connector pins.
The USB-B plug on a USB 3.0 cable, however, has a different shape.
• A USB3.0 hard disk enclosure can also be operated on a USB3.0/2.0/1.1 port via a conven-
tional USB2.0/1.1 cable. However, a faster data transfer is not possible.
• In order to use the fast data transfer of USB3.0, not only a USB3.0 controller is necessary but
also a USB3.0 device and an appropriate USB3.0 cable.
• USB3.0 provides a theoretical data transfer of 5GBit (approx. 600MBps). The transfer speed
in practice depends, however, on the devices involved in the data transfer (e.g. internal and
external hard disk), the type of data (many small files or few large files) and many other fac-
tors.
• The output current of each USB3.0 port of the plug-in card is 900mA. But the SATA connector
of the PC power module should be connected with the corresponding connector (4) of the
plug-in card!
SATA devices
• If you want to use the port multiplier function under Windows, you will have to install the SATA
driver from the CD.
• Both SATA ports support all SATA devices with SATA-I, SATA-II and SATA-III; SATA hard
disks, SATA-SSDs or optical drives with SATA connectors may be operated.
• If write/read process is to be indicated, a LED may be connected to the board (note polarity,
otherwise the LED won’t light up). A suitable series resistor is already integrated in the board,
so the LED may be directly connected thereto.
The LED flashes or illuminates if the SATA ports of the plug-in card are used by write/read
processes.
• Fix the SATA cables so that they won’t slide from the connectors of the plug-in card or drive.
Lay the cables in a way excluding obstacles for fans in their operation. To fix the cables use
e.g. cable binders.
Disposal
Electrical and electronic products do not belong in your regular household waste.
Please dispose of the product, when it is no longer of use, according to the current
statutory requirements.
