Assembling the Platform Support Structure
4.a. On a hard flat surface such as a drive way, install one piece of the plastic lumber at the front of the platform
and one at the back of the platform. The leading edge of the lumber should be flush with the edge of the square
tubing. Because one of the screws on each joist will be driving through the square tubing and the pipe that it is
sleeved onto, it is easier to install these screws through the lumber if you pre drill the holes into the steel (this
is only necessary for these two outside boards.) Using a 3/16” drill bit, pre drill through the lumber and into the
steel. NEXT, using a ¼” drill bit, wallow out the hole in the plastic lumber. The increased hole size in the plas-
tic lumber will prevent the screw from grabbing the plastic lumber and raising the lumber as you are driving the
#14 x 2 ½” self drilling/tapping screw through it and into the steel. CAUTION: When wallowing out the hole
in the plastic lumber, DO NOT allow the ¼” drill bit to wallow out the hole previously made in the steel. Drive
two of the #14 x 2 ½” self drilling/tapping screws through the lumber and into the joist to secure the lumber to
the joist.
A. All those labeled “A” need to have the plastic lumber and steel pre-drilled with the 3/16”
drill bit. Then the plastic lumber drilled again with the 1/4” drill bit.
B. All those labeled “B” just need to have the plastic lumber pre-drilled with the 1/4” drill bit.
