Separation (Walkers)
Approximately 90% of the grain needs to be separated from the straw by the time the
crop leaves the drum. This means that the remaining 10% of the grain has to be
separated by the straw walkers.
MSS
The MSS rotor is situated over the
walkers. It consists of retractable
tines which loosens the straw to aid
grain separation from the straw. By
moving the lever forwards tine
aggression is decreased, by moving
the lever backwards the tine
aggression is increased. It is
suggested that position 1 is used for
dry conditions. Position 3 for normal
conditions. Position 6 is for when
damp, green material is being
harvested or crops such as hemp or
flax. Position 7 hole takes the tines
fully out of work.
Position 1
Position 7
Straw curtain
As the crop leaves the impeller a straw retarding curtain
is fitted to control the throw of the material onto the
walkers. A handle attached to a chain on the LHS of the
machine body allows the angle of this to be altered.
In normal conditions the curtain should be left to hang
freely. In damp conditions it may be a benefit to raise
the curtain slightly to allow the crop to remain loose and
ensure an easier passage through the machine.
