100VG Port Adapter Interface Receptacles, Cables, and Pinouts
The single interface receptacle on the 100VG port adapter is an RJ-45. Each connection supports
IEEE 802.12 interfaces. The RJ-45 connection does not require an external transceiver and can use
Category 3 and Category 5 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable with RJ-45 terminations. (Cisco
Systems does not supply Category 3 and Category 5, UTP RJ-45 cables; these cables are available
from commercial cable vendors.)
Figure 3 shows the RJ-45 cable connectors. Table 1 lists the pinout and signal descriptions for the
RJ-45 connector.

Warning
The ports labeled “Ethernet,” “10BaseT,” “Token Ring,” “Console,” and “AUX” are safety
extra-low voltage (SELV) circuits. SELV circuits should only be connected to other SELV circuits. Because
the BRI circuits are treated like telephone-network voltage, avoid connecting the SELV circuit to the
telephone network voltage (TNV) circuits.

This section provides information about where you can install the 100VG port adapter on the VIP2
and in the Cisco 7200 series routers.
Note
