6 Installing the CSC-MEC and CSC-C2MEC Multiport Ethernet Controller Cards
Description of Parts
Ethernet Transceivers
When using a standard 15-pin AUI Ethernet connector, you need an Ethernet transceiver or media
attachment unit (MAU) to connect the router to the Ethernet network. Several types of single- and
multiport transceivers are available. The type you use depends on the type of cabling your Ethernet
network uses: thick-wire (10Base5), thin-wire (10Base2), or unshielded twisted-pair (10BaseT).
Some single-port transceivers attach directly to the 15-pin connector on the applique; others, such
as multiport transceivers for connecting multiple Ethernet interfaces to a network, require interface
cables. Figure 5 shows examples of different types of transceivers and installations.
