Before installing the chassis, make sure you have on hand all the additional
external equipment and cables. Consider these factors related to each type of
interface when preparing your site for network connections to the chassis:
•
Type of cabling required for each type (fiber-optic, coaxial, or twisted-pair
cabling)
•
Distance limitations for each signal type
•
Specific cables you need to connect each interface
•
Any additional interface equipment you need, such as transceivers, modems,
channel service units (CSUs), or data service units (DSUs)
All port adapters, interface modules, and switch modules ship installed in the
chassis. Refer to the Catalyst 8540 CSR Route Processor and Interface Module
Installation Guide for detailed information about the Catalyst 8540 CSR cables
and port pinouts. Refer to the Processor Installation Guide and the ATM Port
Adapter and Interface Module Installation Guide for detailed information about
the Catalyst 8540 MSR cables and port pinouts.
