Replacing the Boot ROM
Replacing the Boot ROM
To upgrade the boot ROM software to a new software image, you must replace the existing boot ROM.
Required Tools and Equipment
You will need the following tools and equipment:

ROM extraction tool
•
One boot ROM
•
ESD-preventive wrist strap
•
Tape
Boot ROM Replacement
To replace the boot ROM, follow these steps:
Step 1
Turn the power switch OFF and disconnect site power.
For DC-powered units, note the following warning:
Warning
Before performing any of the following procedures, ensure that power is removed from
the DC circuit. To ensure that all power is OFF, locate the circuit breaker on the panel
board that services the DC circuit, switch the circuit breaker to the OFF position, and
tape the switch handle of the circuit breaker in the OFF position. To see translations of

Warning
Before opening the chassis, disconnect the telephone-network cables to avoid contact

Step 2
Remove all interface cables from the DFCs.
Step 3
Attach an ESD-preventive wrist strap.
Step 4
Remove the chassis cover. (See the instructions in the
“Removing the Chassis Cover”
section on page
A-1.)
Step 5
Remove all cards to access the system board. (Refer to the
Cisco AS5350 and Cisco AS5400 Universal
Gateway Card Installation Guide
for instructions on removing various dial feature cards.)
