C65 Dartmouth Series 1
Gaze upon the C65 Dartmouth and you’ll sense a depth of nautical
history flowing through it.
CW’s first watch carrying the Naval crown insignia of the Royal Navy
that can be sold to the general public – a feature made possible
thanks to an official licence from the UK’s Ministry of Defence – the
C65 takes its name from Britannia Royal Naval College based in the
South Devon town of Dartmouth.
Yet those with a keen horological eye may well recognise some of the
C65’s distinguishing flourishes from elsewhere. Inspired by the Omega
Seamaster 300 ‘Big Triangle’ – initially known as the Royal Navy 0552,
a Ministry of Defence-approved piece that saw the first appearance
of the popular inverted triangle later exported to civilian versions –
the Dartmouth features an inverted ‘wedge’ and tapering indexes
at 12 o’clock; all have been filled with white T-C1 or Old Radium
Super-LumiNova
®
for excellent legibility.
As the ‘Big Triangle’ entered service in 1967, it’s apt the Dartmouth
sits within the C65 family, a collection that combines lithe ‘60s dive
visuals with today’s engineering prowess. Powered by a chronometer-
certified movement, the C65 is accurate to just seconds per day –
but what else would you expect from a watch bearing the crown of
the United Kingdom’s Naval Service?
