belts during a severe frontal crash,
and side and rear impacts if the
threshold conditions for pretensioner
activation are met. Pretensioners
are not designed to activate in a
minor frontal crash. Pretensioners
are designed to activate in a
moderate to severe rear crash.
Pretensioners work only once. If the
pretensioners activate in a crash,
the pretensioners and probably
other new parts for the vehicle's
safety belt system will need to be
replaced.

Safety Belt Use During
Pregnancy
Safety belts work for everyone,
including pregnant women. Like all
occupants, they are more likely to
be seriously injured if they do not
wear safety belts.
A pregnant woman should wear a
lap-shoulder belt, and the lap
portion should be worn as low as
possible, below the rounding,
throughout the pregnancy.
The best way to protect the fetus is
to protect the mother. When a safety
belt is worn properly, it is more likely
that the fetus will not be hurt in a
crash. For pregnant women, as for
anyone, the key to making safety
belts effective is wearing them
properly.
Lap Belt
This section is only for the lap belt.

The vehicle may have a second row
center seating position with a lap
belt. The lap belt has no retractor.
To make the belt longer, tilt the latch
plate and pull it along the belt.
Buckle, position and release it the
same way as the lap part of a
lap-shoulder belt.
