GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Information in this portion of Section IB covers servic
ing of the cab and panel bodies on all models except Tilt
Cab (T), Step Van (P), Chevy Van (G) vehicles which are
covered under their own headings elsewhere in Section
IB.
Service write-ups which follow may be applied to all
remaining models unless otherwise stated.
SERVICE OPERATIONS
GENERAL BODY CONSTRUCTION
Figure 1 is a view of a typical cab showing components
in position on the cab. Figure 1 is not intended to accu
rately reflect the availability of service repair parts. It
will be apparent upon reviewing the parts catalog which of
the panels shown are available for service installation.
The Chevrolet Truck body is designed to provide a
strong, fully welded unit which has a universal applica
tion to as many model types as possible; thus the cab
used on the Pickup is also used on heavier units with the
addition of various combinations of front end sheet metal,
rocker panel extensions, transmission covers (floor
plates), etc. This results in a line of trucks which an
swers any need but is easily serviced with a minimum
parts inventory.
The 1968 truck cab incorporates numerous engineering
improvements and added features. The 20 and 30 series
Step Van have been completely redesigned.
New square front Step Van, aluminum and steel permit
access to the engine from the front of the vehicle as well
as from inside.
Improvements in durability are gained by new cab-to-
frame mounts and door hinges.
