TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
The following charts are intended to be used as a guide only. Many non-ignition factors influence the
performance of aircraft ignition systems and the replacement or repair of ignition components may not
remedy problems in all cases. After verifying that all non-ignition related causes for possible problems
have been explored, proceed to use this troubleshooting guide.
PROBLEM
Engine Will Not
Start
REMEDY
Visually inspect wiring connections of low
voltage control harness to power source and
connections to controller.
Do not insert test
probes into LCVH connectors
.
Inspect battery for low voltage or electrolyte
level. Confirm correct operation of electrical
system. Correct as required.
Magneto ignition switch must be wired so that
both magnetos are “on” when the switch is in
the “both” position. Consult Reference Figure
2-5 or ignition switch manufacturer’s manual as
guide.
Inspect connections for leakage. Inspect
tubing for cracks or obstructions. Correct as
required.
Consult Sections 2.2.3 through 2.2.12 of this
manual for correct timing procedures. Correct as
required.
Consult Sections 2.2.3 through 2.2.12 of this
manual for correct synchronization procedures.
Correct as required.
Connect T-300 SynchroLASAR
®
tool to
magneto. “LEFT TDC” light should turn on and
turn off as magneto rotor shaft is turned. If
“LEFT TDC” light does not turn on, then the
position sensor has failed and needs to be
replaced.
The “LEFT BKR PT” should turn on as the
magneto rotor shaft is turned. If the “LEFT
BKR PT” does not turn on, then the backup
relay has failed and the printed circuit board
needs to be replaced.
6-1
POSSIBLE CAUSE
No power to LASAR
®
controller.
Low input voltage to
controller.
Magneto switch not
configured correctly.
Faulty manifold pres-
sure connection from
engine to LASAR
®
controller.
Incorrect sensor
magneto to engine
timing.
Incorrect sensor
magneto to non-sensor
magneto
synchronization.
