How Battery Health is Calculated
Due to lithium batteries generally maintaining a steady battery output until the very end of its life and
the added complexity of different chemical variations of lithium batteries, battery health algorithms
utilize multiple proprietary technologies and methods that are assessed over periods of time to
determine time left before a device becomes inoperable. Methods include historical usage, time-in-
motion, communication rates, current voltage, the ability to recover after applying a load on the
battery and additional proprietary methods. Measuring voltage alone is not a sufficient indication of
battery health and time remaining.
By focusing on estimating time left on batteries it can provide tangible and actionable information to
give customers a better opportunity to plan battery replacement schedules and activities.
Battery Life Expectations
Battery life is heavily dependent upon activity level, use case, update speeds, time spent in Wi-Fi vs.
Active UHF, and utilization of LF, among other factors. Additionally, actual battery life may vary due to
operating temperature, product software/hardware versions, battery manufacturing irregularity and
other environmental factors.
In the event that CenTrak’s select battery manufacturers deliver defective batteries which significantly
underperform expectations, CenTrak may elect to ship the replacement batteries at no charge,
assuming the client is current with their Systems Maintenance Agreement.
