Special functions

• HOT START  i.e. overcurrent being supplied when the arc is

switched on. (Hot - from 0 to 100 with an adjustment interval at
1). With electrodes, access can be gained to the "hot start" func-
tion (adjustable with the ENCODER 2 knob, not changeable
during welding) by pressing the SPECIAL FUNCTIONS key.

TIG WELDING WITH "LIFT" TYPE STRIKING
You can enter this welding mode by pressing the WELDING PROC-
ESS SELECTION key and turning to TIG with the "lift" type striking

.

Connect up the welding cables following the description given in
the paragraph "Connecting up welding - TIG welding cables (fig.
C)".

WARNING:

 Do not lay down the torch on live parts connected to

the earthing cable while the wire-feeder is connected up to the
welding unit by the interconnection cable.

Welding parameters

Table 5 shows the currents to use with the respective electrodes
for TIG AC and DC welding. This input is not absolute but is for
your guidance only; read the electrode manufacturers' instructions
for a specific choice. The diameter of the electrode to use is di-
rectly proportional to the current being used for welding.

The pre-set readings of the welding current

 (adjustable with

the ENCODER 1 knob) and open-circuit voltage

 (not adjust-

able) will be displayed on the A- PARAMETERS Display (abbrevi-
ated in dVPA) and V - PARAMETERS Display (abbreviated in
dVPV) before starting to weld.
The values of the welding current

 being used for welding (ad-

justable with the ENCODER 1 knob) and the welding voltage
(not adjustable) appear on the dVPA and dVPV displays during the
welding process.
Ignitions are done rapidly and with precision in this process through
the innovative heat controlled (TCS) "lift" type striking, reducing
tungsten inclusions to a minimum and stopping the welded piece
from being nicked.
The welder has a SWS "Smart Welding Stop" system for the end
of TIG welding. Lifting up the torch without switching off the arc will
introduce a slope down and it will switch off automatically.

Special functions

There are no special functions associated with this process.

MIG-MAG, MIG PULSED AND MIG DUAL PULSED
WELDING
The following jobs must be done on the TA4 wire-feeder before
starting to weld:
• Remove the contact tip from the torch so that the end of the wire

can freely come out. Remember that the contact tip must corre-
spond to the wire diameter;

• Adjust the potentiometers on the front panel to required values;
• Push the torch push button or the motor check push button until

the wire end comes out from the torch;

• Tighten the contact tip on the torch;
• Open the gas cylinder valve slowly and adjust the pressure regu-

lator to obtain about 1,3 - 1,7 bar;

• Work the gas testing key and adjust the flow to between 14 and

20 l/min. according to the current being used for welding;

• The welding machine is now ready to be used.

SYNERGIC welding mode

Press the WELDING PROCESS key and turn to MIG-MAG

,

MIG PULSED

 or MIG DUAL PULSED

 then press the

WELDING PROCEDURE SELECTION key to SYN to enter this
welding mode.
Synergy is nothing else but a bond that unites the numerous differ-
ent sizes in the sense that when one of these sizes are changed
the others automatically change in synergy.

100 programmes, supplied by the manufacturer and valid for any
welding process can be installed in the DIGITECH 400 PULSED
generator, and are divided up into:
• 100 MIG-MAG programmes (programmes numbering from 1 to

99);

• 100 MIG PULSED programmes (programmes numbering from

101 to 199);

• 100 MIG DUAL-PULSED programmes (programmes number-

ing from 201 to 299).

The generator comes with a certain number of programmes al-
ready produced in the factory, which are shown in the programme
table (see special paragraph) or else on the PROGRAMME DIS-
PLAY (abbreviated dVP) and are ready to be used by the operator.
Connect up the welding cables following description given in para-
graph "Connecting the welding - MIG-MAG, MIG PULSED or MIG
DUAL PULSED welding cables (fig. D)".
Use the PROGRAMME SCROLLING keys to select the programme
best suited for the type of work to be done based on the knowl-
edge of a few parameters (diameter of wire, material being welded,
type of gas to use) or the RUN/MEM key to display the operating
features of the programmes supplied by the manufacturer.
The readings of the preset thickness of piece

, welding cur-

rent

, wire speed

  (adjustable with ENCODER 1 knob) are

displayed on A - PARAMETERS Display (abbreviated dVPA) and
pre-set weld voltage

 (not adjustable), electronic inductance

 and trimming adjustment of the weld voltage

  (adjust-

able with ENCODER 2 knob) are displayed on V - PARAMETERS
Display (abbreviated dVPV) before starting to weld. The manufac-
turer has set the values of the last two parameters to zero.
Set as required and start welding.
The actual welding current (adjustable with ENCODER 1 knob)
will be displayed on the dVPA and the actual welding voltage, elec-
tronic inductance and welding voltage trimming (adjustable with
ENCODER 2 knob) will be displayed on the dVPV during welding.
The two encoders are activated and operational during welding so
that all the sizes associated with them can be changed.
The parameter on the display does not alter when changing from
the setting to the welding phases and vice versa.

Manual welding mode (activated for MIG-MAG
welding process only)

Press the WELDING PROCESS key and turn to MIG-MAG
then press the WELDING PROCEDURE SELECTION key to MAN
to access this welding mode.
The programmes available for MIG-MAG (see paragraph "Synergic
work procedures") and adjustable parameters (wire speed

,

welding voltage

) are used as a basis for this welding proce-

dure through the ENCODER knobs 1 and 2, which are not com-
bined with each other so that you are free to them as you wish.
Connect up the welding cables following the description given in
paragraph "Connecting the welding - MIG-MAG, MIG PULSED or
MIG DUAL PULSED welding cables (fig. D)".
Welding programmes are displayed in the programme table (see
special paragraph) or else on the dVP display.
Use the PROGRAMME SCROLLING keys to select the programme
