J. SAFETY EQUIPMENT
First Aid Kit
The ship’s first aid kit is located in the head and in the mirrored cabinet above the head. Please notify AYC
of any items used from this kit during your trip -- so they may be replaced.
Fire Extinguishers
There are three fire extinguishers aboard, located to give easy access in case of fire. This equipment is
inspected regularly by AYC; however, inspection by each charter party is recommended.
One extinguisher is located just inside the companionway above the engine cover for easy access from the
outside, galley or engine area. Two additional extinguishers are mounted in the forward and aft cabins just
inside each doorway.
Signaling Flares
Handheld flares and a flare gun kit are located in the port cabinet forward of the navigation table.
Life Jackets
Libertas is equipped with twelve personal flotation devices (PFD – life jackets). Two inflatable vests with
built in harnesses and two blue vests are stowed in the forward cabin hanging locker. In addition, there are
six adult and two children’s life jackets located in plastic bags in the helm lockers. Also, there are five
flotation cushions also located in the helm lockers. For easy access to these lockers, it is advised to keep the
lockers unlocked while underway.
Life Sling
There is a Life Sling, man overboard recovery system, mounted on the stern rail for easy deployment in a
man over-board (MOB) situation. Please make certain that all persons aboard read the instructions printed
on the cover of the Life Sling and become familiar with its operation.
Steering Gear Failure
In the unlikely event you experience a loss of steering, there is an emergency tiller located in a red bag in
the helm port lazarette. This tiller is used by fitting it directly onto the rudder post.
The rudder post is
accessible through an access port directly behind the wheel, under the helm seat.
