Global Positioning System (GPS)
In 2009 the Libertas was equipped with a GPS system including a helm mounted chart plotter (Raymarine
C-80) -- enhanced with AIS receiver. The system “chip” provides charts for the Northwest cruising area
including the San Juan Islands, Canadian Gulf Islands and north to Desolation Sound and Princess Louisa
Inlet. Instructions for the GPS system are found in the charting desk. The AIS receiver permits the
helmsman to locate and identify all commercial vessels on the plotter. Please note that the AIS receiver
does not send out a radio signal and, therefore, the Libertas is not visible to commercial vessels using their
AIS systems.
The Libertas is also equipped with a handheld GPS stored in the port cabinet forward of the electrical panel.
The GPS currently does not integrate with the autopilot.
GPS is considered a navigation aid. Do not rely on it. Compasses, charts, and dividers are the tools to plot
position, course, and speed.
Autopilot
The autopilot control unit is mounted at the helm on the port side of the wheel. The toggle switch must be
turned on to activate the system.
(on/off power toggle switch)
AM/FM Stereo Radio – CD Player
An AM/FM stereo radio CD player is located at the navigation station. It operates like a normal car radio
and is turned on and off at the electrical panel.
G. BILGE PUMPS
Libertas
is equipped with an electric pump with a separate automatic float switch. The pump master switch
is located on the electrical panel. An auxiliary, hand operated, bilge pump is operated in the cockpit on the
port side near the stern of the vessel. The handle for the pump is stored in the cockpit table‘s storage
compartment. This is used only in emergency situations.
